World’s Oldest Man Dies at 113

Tokyo, Japan — Tomoji Tanabe, known as the world’s oldest man by the Guinness World Records, has past away due to cardiac failure while he was asleep at home last night.

“He died peacefully. His family members were with him,” said Junko Nakao, a city official in Miyakonojo on Japan’s southern island of Kyushu. Tanabe died of heart failure, she added.

Mr. Tanabe, who was born Sept. 18, 1895, had eight children — five sons and three daughters. The former city land surveyor also had 25 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, according to a statement from the Miyakonojo city. He was certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s oldest man when he was 111 years old. He past away at age 113.

Following the death of Tomoji Tanabe, Guinness World Records reported that the new record holder of the world’s oldest man is 113-year-old Henry Allingham. Mr. Allingham was born in London on June 6, 1896, and is one of only two surviving World War One veterans in the United Kingdom and the last surviving founder member of the Royal Air Force, according to British media.

Prior to both Tanabe and Allingham there was a man named Habib Mianindias, who was recognized by the Limca Book of World Records as the world’s oldest man in 2005. According to the dailymail reports, Mr. Mianindias was born in Rajasthan, India on May 28, 1870. He past away at the age of one hundred and thirty eight!
